Second Lesson Plan Overview
Proposed Lesson Plan:
My lesson plan is about pressure cookers and how they work and help cook meals faster and preserve food. On top of that they save us money. The students will learn about pressure canner and their history. They have changed a lot from the ones that our grandmothers had. They will research them finding pictures of old and newer styles. They will also include recipes of foods they can make in them. It is valuable to know now to use them, and then they will make something in it.
This falls under the Utah Core Curriculum Standard:
Food Science Standard:20.0128-0403 : Discuss the food canning process.
Age level: It would be high school probably due to the danger that falls under it and the rules the must be followed to be safe.
Technologies used:
Pressure cooker
Power point (This will be used for my lecture only)
Scanner (If needed for pictures)
The students will first research about pressure canner and how they work, their history and so forth. They will find pictures on the internet, and other sources that will explain how they work. Along with that, they will then make something in the pressure cooker for a sample. They will have to teach me as the teacher how to use a pressure canner to show me that they know.
Ethics Issues:
This assignment probably will be using the Fair Use of Intellectual Property and some Copyright issues because the students could be using pictures that are not theirs. I will have to teach them about that before they begin their project.
Example: Will be a report like book with pictures in it telling the history of pressure cookers and how they work ( not a real book so software is not needed for publishing. They will just put what they find in a binder). They will also include recipes they can use in pressure canners. This will be a good source for them to have later on. There will also be a sample to eat from what they cooked in the pressure canner.
